The Challenge
Imagine it’s a Friday night and you want to catch some live comedy. You’re left sieving through event and ticketing sites, Google search results, and social media — an exhausting process. By the time you find a show worth seeing, you might be too late or unsure if it’s even any good. Meanwhile, comedians are stuck promoting their sets on the same crowded platforms, struggling to stand out and foster a true fan community. Currently, there is no single destination dedicated exclusively to comedy, where fans can easily discover shows and comedians can connect with a captive audience.
The Solution
Recognizing the opportunity, ComTour teamed up with Flywheel to create a single, easy-to-use app dedicated entirely to comedy. Developed with FlutterFlow and Firebase, it integrates OneSignal for real-time notifications and Google Maps/Places for location-based discovery. Now, fans can quickly find local shows and discover new acts, and comedians can access a dedicated platform to promote and interact with their audience. By consolidating everything into one app, ComTour cuts out the noise to build a community where comedy lovers and performers finally have a single place to connect.
Smart discovery with Algolia and Google Maps and Places
Users can search by comedian, venue, or any other keyword using Algolia’s fast, typo-tolerant search. The results are filtered by real-time location using Google Maps and Places API, so users see shows nearby and actual travel distance. The experience is designed for intent: if you’re looking for something to do on a Friday night, the app will show what you could realistically get to.
Favorite comedians and never miss a show
Each comedian has a profile with their bio and upcoming shows. Users can favorite comedians to get push notifications via OneSignal when new shows are added — eliminating the need to scroll through long lists or feeds. Using targeted and timely push notifications are effective in keeping users engaged without appearing to spam them.
Dedicated platform for comedians
Comedians finally have a platform tailored for them. They can create a profile, promote upcoming sets, send updates, and grow a real fan base. The result? Better turnout, stronger community, and more memorable shows.

To keep the platform sustainable and free for all users, ComTour integrates Google AdMob, delivering non-intrusive, targeted ads that match user interests without disrupting the experience.
